Questions & Troubleshooting / Re: importing other formats
« on: May 11, 2010, 08:07:27 AM »
Most of the operations in shapeshop (blending, cutting, etc) cannot be directly applied to meshes, NURBS, or subD. Those formats have to be converted into something shapeshop can work with, and the conversion process will lose detail. So I haven't tried to do it, and won't be trying any time in the near future. Sorry.

If you want to do that kind of modeling on meshes, take a look at meshmixer

Do you have an Intel GMA-series graphics card?

OK, so I had my hard drive crash last week, just tried ShapeShop on a fresh XP install and I had the same problem (!)  This definitely used to work, so maybe it is because of SP3 or something like that.

Anyway, I think I fixed it. Un-install ShapeShop B5, then download it again from the download page and re-install:

and let me know what you find.

Do you actually have the file:

on your computer? If you do, try copying it to the shapeshop directory, where all the other shapeshop dll's are. If that doesn't work, then I'm not sure I can help you...

I like it. Are you using Photoshop to do the NPR, or is it something in a 3D renderer?

Awesome - I am always happy to see people posting the models they make with ShapeShop.

(gallery updated - now you are famous!  ;) )

Nice! I like it. Thanks for posting. Mind if I put it on the gallery page?

The forum inactivity is my fault, I am trying to finish my PhD so I haven't had much time to improve or publicize ShapeShop.
Unfortunately it is going to be a while before I have much time to work on ShapeShop =\

So when you look at this forum post, you see an image? Does it still show when you log out?

(Sorry to bug you, but you aren't the first person to say you have attached an image, and I have never been able to see them....)

Well, I don't see your screen shot, but I think I understand what you mean. I think I can do that...

Well, if you pick 'Point' under the 'Shapes' menu, you will get a sphere. (The name is poorly chosen - has to do with how it is implemented...). And it is possible to use that to make a capsule, disc, and torus. Then a box can be constructed from a disc, and possibly a cone as well. But it would not be so easy...

So, I see your point =). It would be nice to have default primitives, and it is not so hard for me to do...I will give it a shot.

BTW, what do you mean by 'wheel' ?

b5 is shapeshop beta 5 - the most recent version =)

It should be working regardless of how many lines you draw - can you send a screenshot of the 3 curves to

the line not appearing until it is drawn is a GPU problem, not a computer speed problem. Are you using B5? What graphics card do you have?

The lines should merge by themselves - does the dotted line still appear? Can you post a screenshot of what you are trying to draw? or email it to

OBJ, STL, and Collada. In the File menu, under Export Mesh.

Questions & Troubleshooting / Re: Polygon reduction?
« on: December 04, 2008, 09:33:02 PM »
ShapeShop does not do reduction, but you can always re-mesh your model at a lower resolution (drag on the triangle icon in the upper left), and then refine the mesh (click the 'QR' button in the toolbar), or try to subdivide in areas where more triangles are needed (click the 'SD' toolbar button). Subdivision might fail if your initial mesh is too low, though.

Most of the major mesh-modeling packages do mesh simplification (Maya, etc). Also you could try Garland's QSlim software, there are binaries for version 2.0 at the bottom of this page:
