Ketsudan's ShapeShop Sketchbook
« on: August 27, 2009, 02:10:33 PM »
Hello everyone,

I just discovered Shapeshop the other day, and think it is pretty cool. It looks like this forum hasn't been active in a while...but I thought I would post this anyway.
Its definitely a different way of thinking...and here is my first attempt at creating a model of a Rhino. I didn't really do any surfacing...its just an HDRI lighting setup with a backdrop.
Rendering done in Lightwave 3D, and post work done in Photoshop.

Thanks for looking.

Nice! I like it. Thanks for posting. Mind if I put it on the gallery page?

The forum inactivity is my fault, I am trying to finish my PhD so I haven't had much time to improve or publicize ShapeShop.
Unfortunately it is going to be a while before I have much time to work on ShapeShop =\

cheers,
-RMS

Thanks RMS, I would be honored to have my image put in the gallery.  :)

Too bad you don't have time to work on ShapeShop, though I look forward to when you do. I think its already useful in its current state, and has a lot of potential.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. I've got a few more ideas I'd like to try out...I'll post them here when I am finished.

Awesome - I am always happy to see people posting the models they make with ShapeShop.

(gallery updated - now you are famous!  ;) )

Cool! Thanks for putting my image in the gallery.

Instead of doing another model I did more post work on the Rhino...I'm trying to achieve a hand drawn/painted look. I think it turned out pretty well.

Okay, I tried making a Giraffe today, here are the results:

And the NPR post processed version:

I'm not sure which style looks better.

I think I want to try something more complex next.

I like it. Are you using Photoshop to do the NPR, or is it something in a 3D renderer?

Thanks!

I am using Photoshop for the NPR look, as follows:

1. Use Smart Blur to help flatten the details
2. Median Noise to make the shapes more 'roundy'
3. Make a copy of the layer, and use Find Edges. Desaturate and adjust brightness/contrast to make it darker. Set blending mode to Overlay.
4. Create a blank layer, and use the Texturizer to create a canvas texture. Again set the blending mode to overlay.

Thats the basics of it. I didn't create that technique though, I learned it from a tutorial.

I could probably create a similar effect using Cel Shaders, but I'm happy with what I've got going here.

I am currently downloading Shapeshop, and been looking at some of the screenshots here. I am getting really inspired, but really don't know where to start.  So I have to use Photoshop, I think iit is better to follow a tutorial like this one for starters.
Just style it
